George IV sampler by Mary Crocker aged eight years dated 1829 in period frame with formal devices, country House and poetic verse within a meandering border
This particular sampler is very fine in detail and is silk upon linen I believe
Textile 31 x 31 cm
Overall framed dimensions 39 x 39 cm approximately
in period glazed rosewood frame with top hanging ring, there are some knocks and small losses to the frame and colour variations, a part of its charm and history
Finely stitched with flying devices which look like cherubs, crowns, butterflies, birds, flowering plants, fine Meandering borders, alphabet and central House with green lawn.
One small historic darn and a couple of tiny holes which can be seen in the photos
The text reads as follows:
now man awakes and from his silent bed where he has slept for ages lift his head shakes off the slumber of ten thousand years
and on the borders of New Worlds appears
again the trumpets intermittently sounds
rolls the wide circuit of creation round
an universal Concourse to prepare
of all that ever breathed the vital air
the mystery of God is over.
Tis done there shall be time no more.
